Interview: Kim Tuliau-Moeroa
How did you get into makeup artistry?
During high school, I decided to do work experience once a week for a year in the Farmers health and beauty department to get my foot in the door. Each year since I've pushed myself further to get to where I am today.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Probably from my parents, one thing that's always stuck with me is them constantly saying 'always put 110% into everything you do, even if it doesn't end up the outcome you were hoping for, be content knowing you put your all into it'.
What has 2020 taught you?
You just never know what's around the corner. You can have what feels like your whole life/career planned out, but it can be taken from you in an instant. It's definitely reminded me about what's most important in life, and to appreciate the privileges I'm blessed to have, big and small!
What inspires you right now?
Im obsessed with summer and warmth, so these warmer days have inspired some of my recent looks when creating content. It's inspired me to create more radiant and fresh looks, full of shimmer and glowing skin.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Through the talented individuals I am constantly surrounded by, they each bring something inspiring or something I'm able to learn from each time I'm around them. We're so lucky to have such a creative hub here in Dunedin. I also get a lot of inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest, and magazines. There's inspiration all around us!
What is your favourite Bobbi Brown product?
The Vitamin Enriched Face Base is definitely right up there! It's a moisturiser and primer in one. It has the most dreamy balm feel to it without leaving the skin feeling greasy.

What is your pro tip for applying makeup?
Perfecting your base is key to getting the perfect finish. If you haven't taken the time to use the right products to prep your skin before applying makeup, nothing you put on will sit or last as well as it could. Invest in the right skincare products suitable for your skin type to help protect and prevent future damage as well.
Who do you look up to?
I'm honestly surrounded by so many incredible people it's hard for me to narrow it down. My Dad is definitely one of them! His hard work ethic and ability to give his all to our family every single spare moment he has, even after working extreme hours has taught me so many valuable lessons.
What do you do outside of work?
Spend as much time with my loved ones as I can. It's what centers me and keeps me grounded. I'm part of a big family and we're all very close so at least one of my days off is spent doing something fun with them!
What are 3 words that describe you?
I would say passionate, hard-working, and adaptable.
When you were a kid what did you want to be when you were older?
A makeup artist! All those years of drawing on my doll’s eyelids and lips with vivid and paint obviously paid off (sorry mum).
What is one of your all-time favourite makeup looks?
A bronzed smokey eye with the dewiest looking skin, paired with a red lip. Simple yet striking.
Where is your favourite place in Dunedin?
Probably the botanical gardens. I'm obsessed with nature/flowers and have so many memories of going there for picnics with the family.
What music gets you vibing?
It changes constantly. I go from one extreme to the other with genres. Right now I'm vibing to a lot of old school soul.

Nikki_makeup! Her page is full of tutorials and so many incredible makeup looks to draw inspiration from.
What is your life motto/motto for 2020?
We've all been in similar situations this year, so remember to be even more kinder, and more compassionate. Roll on 2021! Xx
